Is no news good news?

Pretty quiet regarding transfers, both in and out. Still a long way to go until the end of the window, but, only a week to kick off so are we happy with what we have?

Here's my onions.

From a purely football perspective, not getting into financials as I have no qualifications whatsoever above O'level Maths, I'm glad the likes of Fellows, Maja, Diakite and Dike are still here and hope that remains the same.

Wouldn't be sad to see one or two of Bartley, Wallace, Grant, Mowatt or Molumby go, if we got a decent offer and they were replaced if necessary.

Our frailties, however, seem the same as last season.

No great confidence in either keeper
No cover at RB
No recognised LB (not counting the Lesser Spotted Frabotta)
A lack of a CM who can drive us forward, they all have different attributes, yet none have this.

And, possibly the most frustrating, we have a wonderful talent in Price, but we don't seem to know where to play him.

Upshot is, if we went into the season with what we have, I think we'd be better than most, but not a genuine threat to top 5.

Can't disagree with any of that.

I was impressed how quiet they kept the Heggebo deal, which gives me faint hope that there are more in the pipeline, but I guess as ever where we are in the food chain dictates that we are waiting for other people to do their business, and then see who becomes available.

One thing though, looking at Wednesday, it isn't hard to imagine ourselves there with Lai, and it is pretty obvious that we are in for a few seasons of reducing the wage bill and then buying with the aim of selling on for profit, so just having somewhere to go this season still feels a bonus. Whatever the team looks like, we've still got one and after surviving on payday loans, that is no mean feat.

Most of our transfers seem to generally come out of the blue so whilst there may be little speculation I imagine a lot is going on behind the scenes.

I'd like to see us sort out Maja's situation this month ideally. He's a saleable asset but with his injury record and having only a year left on his deal I think we either need to tie him down to a contract extension or move him on if there is interest in him.

I can't see us signing a first choice keeper - Griffiths is better than Palmer was at his age and will only get better with more time in the team. We may try and pick up a free agent to give competition to Wildsmith, I heard Angus Gunn was training with us.

At RB, Campbell can play there can't he? Predominantly a CB but will cover RB when required, also gives us the opportunity to play a back three. I can't see another RB coming in.

I agree LB remains an issue, I personally still think Heggem is our best option here. It also frees Styles up to play in midfield and cover another position where we look light in. Would expect to see some movement on a LB, probably once Frabotta has been dispatched back to Italy.

The CM issue could be helped as per the above if we bring in someone to play LB in place of Styles. Perhaps a loan option, someone like a Donley from Spurs?

One area you haven't mentioned is out wide, I know we've been liked with Ramos from Cadiz but we need another Mikey Johnston inside forward option, someone to attack the box from out wide to offer balance to Fellows.

Good post. I'm pretty sure we don't have the option of keeping players like Fellows, Dike  and Maja AND addressing the other areas mentioned. So, if I were given the choice of keeping those players but bringing no one else in, I'd probably take it.
