They won 3-0 at our place in the 1998 in an early Denis Smith game. I think Alan Ball might have been back there at that point.

We beat them 5-0 when Rix was manager in the first Megson promotion season. Don't think he managed another game at our place.

One of the best atmospheres at The Hawthorns happened mid 80s, I'd guess. Pompey were on course for promotion and we were stuck mid-table, skint and things were about to get much worse. Night game, bigger crowd than normal although still only about 17000. The Brummie was deafening that night. I took some mates that were villa fans plus one Cheshire based Man Utd regular. all were knocked out by the noise. I think we won 1-0 but it may have been a 1-1. It was back to tedium though for a long time after.

Won 1-0 that night, Hopkins with the goal, one of Dingle Dons early games for us.

That’s another 2. Dreadful night game.  Smith barely won early on  other than wolves away

That Rix Pompey game was the single worst away performance I’ve ever seen. Genuinely could have been 10. They got away with 5 that day for sure. I think Prosinecki played for them that day?
