Aye. my first hero. Also a gent off the field too, saw him and Bomber at many of our away games in the lower divisions. At their own volition too, long before Bomber got the radio gig. R.I.P. Jeff, never forgotten.

Will always be the king.
The bridge will long display his name.
I've never seen so many centre halves crap themselves.
Thanks for the memories Jeff.

I never saw him play and have only seen a few of his goals, usually towering headers.

So how would those that saw him describe his style of play and who would he compare to?

Almost every club then had a big centre forward. The only exceptions I recall were Man Utd with Bobby Charlton and Liverpool with Ian St.John. Both very fine players but totally different. I really cannot think of any in Jeff's style that were better.  The difference, and it's often overlooked, was that Jeff was decent on the deck as well. His time unfortunately coincided with the then England manager playing with no wingers so he didn't get the number of caps he might have done.

Off the top of my head (See what I did?)
Dings. The Doog
Leeds, Mick Jones
Saints, Ron Davies
Spurs, Chivers.
Chelsea, Osgood.
Newcastle, Wyn Davies.
Everton, Joe Royle.

Jeff was better than any of them, really.

I disagree.  Liverpool had Tony Hateley who scored 27 goals in 67/68 season.  Both Jeff and Hateley were products of Notts County.

Let me say this, Jeff was the top dog out of all of those mentioned, I saw Jeff loads of times, he WAS the King, He IS the King, and will ALWAYS be the King, he was a fantastic player , just ask the fans that night against Man Utd in 1968, hat trick for the King, no talking about Best Charlton or Law that night, it belonged to the King of the Brummie Road

Did he come deep and get involved in build up?

Did he hold the ball up and lay it out wide and then get in the box for the cross?

Most natural finisher I’ve seen for us is KP , was Jeff even better?

I saw Jeff play a few times, he had a knack of being in the right place at the right time. Found space like all great players do. As for heading ability only 2 others players come to mind CR7 and Pele.

I to had the pleasure of watching the king on loads of occasions not forgetting the hatrick at the Hawthorns in our 6 3 win when the late great Denis law also missed from around a yard out.
For me he had only one equal in the air and that was Tony Hateley, but Jeff was the better all round player and had some greats battles with the late Ron Yates. Also it was true that he was denied more caps because Sir Alf decided to change the system. Miss him loads will never see his like again.
