Help needed

Right this is my 49th year of being Albion obsessed and I'm made up Tony is back.  He was gaffer when I first started taking my boy.  One question never understood the gnurker and smersch references.  I know all about soft feet and artisans etc but those 2 have passed me by.  Enlightenment please!!

Gnurrrker, The - Tony Mowbray. A moniker bestowed upon him by Hawkings Halfpipe in his "Day in the Life of Tony Mowbray" series. The name was inspired by how Tony Mowbray sounded in TV/radio interviews.
