Buddhism is fundamentally a peaceful religion.

The atrocities in Myanmar are hardly typical behaviour of Buddhists.

And you can have all the money in the world and your life can be turned upside down by mindless evil.

What has happened in Myanmar is a good example of people who are members of religion by default due to them being born in certain part of the world or down to their heritage. They tend not to think too deeply about or study their religion very much beyond the surface.
I was brought up by parents who could be described as fundamentalist Christians (women still can’t take an active part in services if there are men present, divorce is sinful and they won’t remarry divorces people in their churches etc) but the one thing I do respect is their belief that being a religious is a conscious decision and not something you are born into or can be decided for you by your parents having you christened / blessed etc

Exactly, those who claim religion is the cause of war are falling into the same trap as those who get manipulated into perpetuating such wars.

These points exactly.
