CC - the key
#1
Carlos and his coaching staff are the key to us this season, more so than the players on the pitch. CC wants to be here and will work hard at achieving, as he has said. He seems genuinely proud to be at Albion.

I know this has been said over the last few months, particularly about this season. But it is fairly obvious judging on what we know so far. IMO he will have us at the right end of the table again. I think he has enough to work with the scouting dept and will also know his own players. He worked on a shoestring at Huddersfield and got them to the play off final. But last season with a fairly decent squad, Bruce was horrendously underachieving. After an ok first few games, it was horrendous and without that start we would have been in the play offs comfortably. I know CC was elsewhere, then, but imagine if we had got him in the Summer.

Players have gone, but only one is a real miss for us and the wage bill has been lessened.

If we can get signings like the lad from Brighton, or another BTA type to add to what we have, I think we'll be ok. The manager and his team are the key.

More by luck than design I think CC working with a focused and stable group with the odd quality addition probably suits him most. As it did with Megson

Yes, he reminds me of Megson in a few ways. Plus, I think the club and squad are in a similar predicament in some ways to where we were in 2000.

Agree with you CWB.

We are a mess behind the scenes, but the vast majority of this squad is good enough to be involved at the right end of the table, particularly with a very decent manager and coaching staff in charge. Whilst there is a lot of toxicity in the ownership, I imagine Miles and co. are doing their best and do have the clubs' best interests at heart and will be shielding the day to day running from the clusterfuck that's going on in China.

The exits appear to have calmed down now, it appears we have got ourselves on a slightly more even keel and I anticipate the focus will now be on bringing 2-3 players in to supplement what is already a decent first XI.

We are not a million miles away, we just need to pluck a striker, a fullback and ideally some more creativity in the middle from somewhere. Having Diangana, Phillips, Mowatt and Bartley back will improve us compared to the end of last season.

What do we think was our best win of the season? Luton away? Eventual play off winners at an absolute fortress…the team?

Ten of the players who started are still here (O’Shea) along with 5 of the 7 subs (Livermore and Rogic). BTA was also unavailable plus we have the Brighton lad.

Add a striker, ACM and a full back and we have a decent shot at top 6.

Need a new keeper now!

Do we? It was always gonna be one of Griffiths or Palmer going. Also don’t be surprised to see the latter stay.

Nobody is that much if a miracle worker .the way it's going I think CC might walk, much more than when Leeds were sniffing.

How can anyone deliver anything other than struggle with the 'squad' we are looking at having?

Devil’s advocate: seems to be unlucky with breakages.

Really don’t rate Griffiths that much so far.
Looked decent first few games when he came in last season but gradually got slightly worse and never matched anything Palmer gave us before.
Looked hesitant yesterday esp with that brittle defence in front of him.
Calling him first choice is a big first eleven downgrade.
