So shit he regularly saw us competing halfway up the PL. Not his fault Lai & Co didn't move him on in the summer of 2017 when the time was right.

Huh? Are you referring to the thread title?

Yes. I am by no means defending the uselessness of Pardew, but to label it as his relegation is incorrect, it was a joint effort, started by Pulis. To suggest otherwise is simply re-writing history.

That may be so, but he did play a part in surrendering our PL status.

I think Bartley has been a better CB than O'Shea has during that time period, but otherwise can't fault that selection!

Maitland-Niles arguably played better for us than Gallagher did, but he's by far the better player.

AMN played well when the team played well under a mini Big Sam resurgence. Gallagher was the outstanding performer during the first half of the season when we were pretty embarrassing.

Wallace easily.

Over Barnes and Pereira?

Pereira mainly played centrally. And Barnes mainly played on the left. So all three of them are in. Wallace without a doubt the best right winger in that period IMO.

Controversially I believe HRK deserves a mention, whilst no where near Gayle, he was a damn solid pro who always did a job.

Johnston

Ferguson
Ajayi
O'Shea
Gibbs

Yokuslu
Sawyers

Wallace
Pereira
Barnes

Gayle.

Clearly Gallagher is a better player than Sawyers. But Sawyers was instrumental in our best side post relegation...sadly like the manager and one or two other players lost his way towards the end of the promotion season and has never found it since.

That OG alone means he can never be anywhere near such a side!

Unconventional formation perhaps:

Johnstone

Dawson Hegazi Brunt

Yokuslu Gallagher

Wallace Pereira Barnes

Gayle J.Rod

Subs: Maitland-Niles, Ajayi, Holgate, Gibbs, Phillips, Robson-Kanu

Close, but too much against them: Grady (poor for 3 years), Ferguson (barely played a double figure match total).
