In case Grant Shapps or whatever alias he is currently using reads this board, there is 1 tph (not 4 as you claimed)
Also, just so that this doesn't get bogged down into London-Manchester, Avanti are pulling the same shit with services to Birmingham. Contracted to run 3tph from Euston to New Street, haven't run that since March 2020, currently running 1 tph which calls at MKC, Rugby, Coventry and Birmingham International. Did you know that Grant Shapps?
Deliberately lying on national television or genuinely an idiot? Or both?
And, while you're at it, let the TOCs individually negotiate with ASLEF and the RMT on pay instead of collectively going through Network Rail and the DfT so the private sector can balance efficiency of operational cost with operating performance as otherwise how is there supposed to be any level of market competition on something where there's already very little? You might as well nationalise it as you're running the whole thing as though it's nationalised, except not properly scrutinising the TOCs that aren't directly operated (like Avanti) and subsidising the likes of DB (German government), Abellio (Dutch government), Trenitalia (Italian government), Govia (French government and the Canadian Crown Corporation) etc. Either properly privatise it vertically and very strictly regulate it a la Japan or nationalise it because you're running it like it's nationalised with all the risk transferred to the taxpayer and all decisions coming centrally from the DfT for no benefit to the taxpayer and zero market competition.
