Celebrating the "end" of COVID
#1
The numbers look so encouraging lately, don't they?

For me, it would seem worthy of a Bank Holiday or, at least, some sort of recgonition.  Certainly moreso than Lizzie wearing a crown for 80 years or whatever.  We've all been through so much, it looks like we're coming out of it, it's worth pausing for a bit and reflecting/celebrating imo.

Sort it Bruce.

It's probably worth pointing out that we have roughly he same number of people in hospital as we had last year.

We are definitely more protected with jabs but the numbers in hospital are no different to 12 months ago (5th March 2021 - 8,594 and falling fast; 1st March 2022 - 8,486 and falling but not as fast).

Just to add a bit of context as well, the lowest number in hospital since the pandemic began was May 2021 at around 750. We'll be lucky if we reach that figure before July taking the current rate of fall.

The numbers in hospital might be similar but the number of infections currently is vastly higher apparently.

In hospital with Covid, or because of, baggy1? Whilst hospitalisations are broadly the same, people on Vents is roughly 6x less, and deaths are lower too.

In hospital in the same way they were at the same time last year. Agree on the last two points

There has been some data coming out of Denmark to suggest there are more in hospital with, then because of. This suggests that hospitalisations would have been higher, but for the jabs and milder variant. So there is a core of people who would have been hospitalised pre-covid anyway.

Fascinating stuff.
