The vast majority of this squad has been here for 3 or more managers - in Livermore and Phillips' case I think it's now 6. During that time we've lurched from the diabolical anti-football of Pulis to the chaos of Pardew, the misguided hybrid of Moore-Jones, the swashbuckling to aimless nothingness of Bilic, and then Fat Sam's "improvement"
In just over 4 years we've played every type of football imaginable, and in the meantime we've made just over 50 transfers with almost 50% of them being on loan - that's almost 7 players a season on loan... over the last 5 summers, 37 players have been signed and sold - over two thirds of our players have been moved on less than 3 years after signing - either through being a loan or a short term fix.
Eventually, especially at a club like ours, we have to accept the need for some stability. We need to look at players we can bed in for more than a season at a time and with that commit to a style. I appreciate the need to get results immediately, but overhauling squads and paying off players who no longer fit the mould costs money which reduces the quality of replacement we can afford.
I have serious concerns about Val, but with no DoF, and with no footballing experience in senior positions in the club we need stability in the dug out and need to see how this plays out.
