This Furlong bashing...

Just hang on, he's been very good for me the past 4-5 weeks since he got back in the side, great energy, gets up and down and puts some great balls into the box

Up against Eze today who didn't have a sniff

As for the handball, it's instince, he had no intention to hand ball it, he tried to remove his arm and get his chest to the ball, slowing it down for VAR just makes it 100 times worse than it is, he was unlucky, naive at best but it wasn't a moment of stupididty, he tried to get his arm out the way

As for the comments he's not good enough next seaon, he will be one of the best RB's in the Champ, he has energy and is decent going forward, he's still young and will learn a lot from this season

Add a decent left back to challenge Townsend and the back four and back up is pretty much covered for next season IMO

He just doesn't defend well enough for me. That is more important than how well they get up and down the pitch. Cant fault his effort or attitude, but don't even think that's the first penalty he has given away this season. Might be wrong of course.

More than good enough. Most of them will be.

Have people who are criticising our players for next season seen the standard of football in the Championship I wonder?

He's out of his depth at Premier League level, not the only one though.

Most of them are. But comfortably good enough for next season. Then the problems start all.over again in the summer of 2022.

Furlong is not one of the best right backs in the Champ. He's arguably not the best right back in our squad, and we only have one true right back. Under Allardyce he has improved massively in the past few games but under any manager where he's given license to play with a bit more freedom his positioning is absolutely woeful. Look at the number of times last season we conceded from that side while he was up the pitch.

I know we all love a wing back with a bit of pace, but that shouldn't be at the expense of being able to defend. I actually think he'd probably be a better winger than a couple in our squad as he's got a directness and fearlessness that someone like Phillips is lacking .

I agree, Cuz. It was a daft thing to do getting his arm out, but I would have been raging if he would have watched the ball sail past to Benteke when uts a foot from him.

Will be fantastic next year and a good squad player when we get back up.

Right back has been a massive problem for us this season. He is not good enough. He’s looked better the last few weeks mainly because of the protection Yosuslu had added, we need a new right back next season and Furlong should be nothing more than a backup player

I think we'll need strengthening in more areas than right back.

A goalscorer is a priority. Again.

Yep we need a new striker. Doesn’t mean we don’t need a new right back aswell though.
