Leather case balls with the laces that hurt if you headed it where the lace was. Once the plastic coating had come off they weighed a tonne when they got wet. Like playing footie with a medicine ball.

Our old sports teacher at primary school made us play with a lace-up football. It must have been thirty years old given it was the 80s at the time. I can confirm that it did weigh a tonne, Young could only kick it about a metre on a wet day and if you headed it you saw stars.
