Fans back in stadiums in October?

With talk of pubs, restaurants and gyms having to re-close to enable schools to re-open in September, I can’t see how they’d let mass gatherings take place, including football grounds from October.

With the threat of the winter flu / covid coming back I'd be amazed if the let crowds of any size together before next spring.

I’d write this coming season off in terms of fans in grounds, at least until there’s a vaccination program in place.

To be honest I’m not hugely confident about Glasto next year right now.

Agree with Duffs. No chance at all. Without a vaccine it’s 2021-22, and a virtual certainty of a therapeutic and herd immunity balance.

No Chance this year ,although the government seem
very muddled in their thinking having opened pubs before schools?

Same. Can’t help thinking even Euro21 will be behind closed doors.

School kids protest involved blocking roads and chalking everywhere... Adult protests ended up with injuries and violence... Don't be fooled, the kids didn't want to go to school, the adults wanted to go to pubs. that's what all the protests were really about Wink

Pubs generate money.

Schools cost money.

You can guarantee every person with winter flu will be running to the hossie claiming covid. No doubt the winter flu will magically disappear this year and it will all be Covid. Meanwhile nobody will be able to do anything and the country will go further to shit even though you can bet your bottom dollar most won't be Covid. Winter flu accounts for on average 17000 deaths each year (dips and spikes mind 28K in 2014/15 and 1700 2018/19).

The whole situation about winter flu is a shitstorm waiting to happen - without Covid it passes as a normal year - with Covid the govt no doubt react to every little whiner on social media and we'll end up locked in again for Dec/Jan.

I read that they think there is a test that will be available that can distinguish COV from regular flu. i think the biggest issue is that there are a lot more COV cases that require hospitalisation and specialist equipment than what Winter Flu requires (might be wrong)... a spike in WF and a spike in COV at the same time will be pretty devastating i think.
