Truly innovative at the time and a great writer of pop songs. David Hepworth gave a less than flattering opinion of him in his book, 1971 though. Saying his voice was too weak for live shows and described how Slade (as the support band), blew the headlining T Rex off the stage at a festival in Essex. FWIW, I liked 'em anyway.
