This bloody country...

interesting how the protesters can be labelled a lawless mob who should be attacked with rubber bullets (that have caused several innocent people to lose eyes in recent days) based on the actions of a small percentage of them but when it comes to the police its always "a few bad apples" and "we can't judge all of them based on the actions of a few".

Anyway, as Duffers says pretty much every right and freedom we enjoy in this country was hard-won through civil disobedience. Some on here would still be tilling the fields for their masters if it was up to them, Christ.

It’s an excuse to cause lawlessness and riot. Copycat riots have been going on for ages.

Time to bring out water cannons and rubber bullets and hurt the fuckers

Peaceful protest or not, mass gatherings aren’t permitted.

Deploy the army and make an example of some of them is fine with me.

Correct, only language these fuckwits understand is force

Doing it any time is bad enough as soon as it crosses the line from peaceful, doing it now with Covid and the disregard for social distancing etc
Somebody at the Police should be scouring every inch of CCTV and TV footage and these cunts should be behind bars or hit with massive fines as soon as bloody possible

Twats!

So yes a mob ripping down a statue in Bristol was wrong regardless of feelings about the statue.

History is littered with acts of civil disobedience that have led to positive change.

If people’s biggest takeaway from this is that a law around statues has been broken then I’d question their core values...

Don't try and silence my view with a spurious claim that I don't care about the wider issues. You can't chose which laws are valid and which aren't. Mobs don't decide.

Any other laws you think we shouldn't accept. What if the next mob decides Albion is a racist term and it should be banned from all football names. Ridiculous yes but you can't say we will turn a blind eye to this law for today because we agree with the wider cause.

If you don't agree with the law you go through the proper procedures to get it changed.

You never knew that statue existed until yesterday, you've never written one letter saying statues like this should be pulled down. So don't try and take the moral high ground and pretend you were against this statue being there for years.

The calls for water cannons and rubber bullets is stupid, it gives the agitators what they want because it will fire up many more to break the peaceful protest.

Then you replace rubber bullets with real ones. If the law in society is breached we have nothing.

I genuinely was aware that statue existed, there has been a sustained campaign over the last few years to have it removed.

Are you actually, seriously advocating that the state murders its own people for demonstrating against injustice? What the fuck are you on?!

Bristol is a great place to live. It’s now just that little bit better with the removal of Colston’s statue. If you’re complaining or outraged about it, I assume that you were equally indignant when Saddam’s statue was torn down by the crowds in Baghdad?

It’s Remi, best to just ignore it.

Good job you're not the chief constable in any force. The Police are a lot more subtle these days, in any mob situation they know to go in with violence will only breed violence. They will monitor the cctv, identify the few individuals involved in the defacing of Churchills monument and attacking officers, and round them up over the next few days. No need to cause a riot and panic by shooting at them.

People have a right to demonstrate, but they are all to often infiltrated by thugs. These thugs have no place in the democracy they are pretending to represent. The law has to prevail and that's it.
