My GF has an allergy to fish, so she can’t take opiates. They have Codiene.

I'm not supposed to take ibuprofen either but if it's a choice between abstention or gout I go for the pills every time.

Naproxen, as mentioned above, is far better for gout and don't think it's quite as bad for the gut although I have been prescribed other pills to go with it to suppress that as well before. Before that I was popping ibuprofen like tics-tacs to try and keep the swelling down as I thought it was just a flair up of a weak ankle from footie days.
