I think the Govt has got themselves in a right pickle, through one error.
Not locking down early enough, and possibly hard enough. France, Italy and Spain all had locdowns which imposed even stricter restrictions than we did.
Think in fairness they are probably handling the coming out of lockdown as best as it can be given the circumstances. Some glaring own goals. Schools was an unnecessary screw up, but everything else is about right.
The problem for us is that the current rate of infections are possibly too high to come out of lockdown with sufficient confidence that a new wave of infections this summer, won't occur. But the lockdown was beginning to crumble anyway, so the Govt are bowing to the inevitable.
