Feck.... Allegedly on £70k per week... Fits the non scoring striker role well (in the last 3 seasons anyway, admittedly at Prem level) Hasn't managed over 26 games in a season in the last 4...

To be fair, was fit enough to be on the bench (even if not used) for all bad half a dozen games last season. Wouldn’t have been on the bench if not fit.

His goals to games ratio is actually pretty good.

I'm always worried signing players who haven't played a lot of football for 12 months. We did it with Lambert. It takes too long to get back up to speed, especially ageing players.

I'd rather we went for someone else but then if it's him or someone like Nakhi Wells I'd go for Austin

To be fair, he could have played more last year but the manager didn't pick him. Those wages might be a sticking point. Even at £40k per week its just over £2m and unless we're desperate, we won't be doing that unless its a sign that there are no permanent deals coming in so lets use the budget up?

Austin is worth a punt provided we're not paying a fee and just plumping for the bulk of his wages.

Gayle would always be the preferred signing, given he's not available on those terms it seems, Austin isn't a terrible substitute.

Career wise I agree, 2 leagues goals in 20 league games last year... not so much.

Guess it depends on the deal if we get him, I'll support whoever, but this one will not excite me.

It'll be a permanent for Austin
