Sounds like they caught it early and that's everything. My father died due to a stroke and my father in law survived due to speedy intervention.

Bugger.  That's awful.  Hopefully he got a lot of good treatment in the first hour or two which makes a lot of difference to the recovery . 
There is a lot of brilliant therapy around these days.  Good luck to him.

Crikey, that’s no age to suffer what’s often a life changing illness. A massive stroke killed my grandfather (after a smaller one earlier), so hopefully he recovers soon.
