What is it with people on the right trying to pretend they're more working class than they actually are?
There should be a mandatory tag-line when it comes to the media mentioning such people eg. "Goodwin (lied about being first in his family to go to uni)", especially if it's relevant i.e. when talking about education. Politicians are getting away with too much blatant dishonesty and it needs to be called out at every possible opportunity.
I think all of the major channels should agree to have a 5 minute segment at the end of their flagship political programmes where a fact checker can report on what misinformation has been aired in the preceding 55 minutes - with no chance of comeback by the politicians. A purge is needed.

Of course. Let's hope they don't bring some of the Yardley / Ladywood "pro-Palestinian independent" tactics to the streets of Gorton.
Not running i believe.
Greens favourite with the bookies, and given the demographics of the constituency and the Reform candidate you can see why.
Labour i suspect will be a distant third.

The big issue with Islam is that is a totalitarian religion that holds itself above any other subject or cause, in a way that the other religions don't (or at least in no way to the same degree). There are wars and travesties against human rights happening worldwide but the main concern for such groups is which religion the inhabitants belong to. Why this should take precedence as a local voting choice over housing, care, jobs etc. I really don't know or understand but there will always be a chancer who is willing to make a few statements to secure this type of voter.

Not as depressing as Reform putting up a candidate who appears to have a distinct antipathy towards Muslims

A victory for the Greens would be cause for great celebration IMO.

I’m pretty sure GB News, Mail, Express, Telegraph and the Sun etc have been endorsing right wing parties for decades if not more… I don’t recall you being depressed by this relentless indoctrination of the country by billionaire owners persuading ordinary people to vote against their best interests.
For the record I don’t think religion and politics should mix but sadly they do, heck even your fellow Brexiteers Steve Baker and Jacob Reece-Mogg profess to being Christian… I know unbelievable!

Voting along sectarian lines has done wonders for the local areas where it's happened, such as Sandwell.
If the Muslim vote can swing the by-election "cos Gaza" then I suppose education, health, roads, taxation, benefits etc can just go hang. Cos Gaza. That's what's depressing.

Most of the above-listed are significantly better in Sandwell than in Birmingham.
A Muslim group endorsing a mainstream party doesn't seem particularly sectarian to me, but it's a day with a vowel in it, so Muslims must be doing something bad in your eyes.
I'd also say the situation in Gaza (where Israel has now accepted over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed) is even more depressing and people are right to be outraged by it, particularly as our taxes have directly contributed towards it.

Perhaps they are suggesting that muslims should vote for the Greens, because they are the best bet to prevent a candidate who comes across as being very antagonistic towards muslims, who today has been endorsed by that well known islamaphobe Tommy Robinson.
Goodwin and Robinson represent a real threat to the Muslim community, if they and their ilk were to come to power, this country would become a very challenging and potentially dangerous place for muslims to live.
Possibly you should direct your displeasure towards Farage what was he thinking when selecting this candidate for this constituency (or any constituency to be fair)
