Picked up Hogwarts legacy for free over Xmas, never read the books or seen the films but just got the first book to read to the kids.

Started hollow knight: silksong just after Christmas, great to look at, enjoyable, but frustrating as hell

Got the platinum on HL, massive grind for some of the trophies, but a very decent game if you just play through the story. Very accessible too.
Had a few games off Santa, AC Mirage, Ghost of Yotei and Expedition 33, but haven't started any of them yet. Have hardly fired up the PS5 for a couple of months, think I'm still working on RE2 remake plat.

Played and beat Wo Long Fallen Dynasty vias PS+, decent game, but it's no Elden Ring. Combat is far too arcadey and I found a weapon and tactic that got me through most of the game with little skill being needed. Worth it if you're in need of a souls fix.

Daughter and I just finished FFVII Remake and Rebirth, in anticipation of the final part of the trilogy hopefully later this year. She enjoyed it that much that she has just started the original, which in my view remains one of the best games of all time (especially for its day).
Overall, they are easier, once you get the hang of the new battle modes (which doesn’t take long). Very much enjoyed how they expanded upon each character arc, whilst at the same time managed to remain mostly faithful to the original cast. I think that they overcook the side-quests in Rebirth (especially where that annoying twat Chadley is concerned), but it does add value for money I suppose. The locations are all much larger and enjoyable to explore, and I really like the incidental dialogue you encounter. Even though, somehow, the world map seems smaller. But, overall, a heap of fun, and a great trip down memory lane. The only disappointment I’d say was the Crisis Core spin-off, which whilst a worthwhile addition/clarification to the overall plot is a bit of a hatchet-job gameplay and interaction-wise. It’s almost like they gave that task to the SquareEnix YTS kids whilst the talent continued working on the VII remakes. Glad it was a Cex purchase, and that we didn’t pay full price! Would have felt short-changed, if so. So what to play meanwhile, given she’s done all the Resi games too? Well, after looking at the reviews and buying it, she just started Demon Souls but can’t at all get into it. I think it will be retraded for the newest Silent Hill release, which which I’m hoping she’ll enjoy much more.

I've ended up re-re-re-downloading Fallout 4 cuz of the show... god the character models and lip sync suck!

Crisis Core was for the PsP so it was always going to seem thin. I love it for the story and Zacks my favourite character in the FF7 universe by far. I can't finish Rebirth though, I had a total.mental.brrakdown not long after it launched and every time I play it I feel like shit and panic, it's really getting to me.

I just need a machine capable of playing rebirth, then going to hammer it. Need a ps5 or a new graphics card…

Sorry to hear that, Birdy. It is worth the investment if you can (hopefully) get back into it.
I actually find gaming a brilliant distraction from life’s many woes - for me the bigger issue is being able to start games. I can never be arsed, which is why I often get my daughter to do it instead! I think what I disliked most about CC was the restricted environments (they were all very samey), and the seemingly endless quota of contractual missions. Oh that, and fusing materia without the aid of google was a royal pain in the backside. I certainly enjoyed the story, though. Who knew Zack was such a womaniser! |
