They were then given some cash, food and necessities (nappies baby food where applicable etc). They were put into a furnished property and then their case worker would visit them when they worked down their list. Inevitably there were a lot of times that the case worker would turn up and they, and the furniture, were gone. Putting them into one location makes sense in many ways.

And the 2nd point about the waiting list is that there is available accommodation however not necessarily the right type, you can't place a family with two or three kids into a one bed flat permanently hence the temporary accommodation. There is a waiting list and there is available housing https://www.birminghamchoice.co.uk/Prope...h/Results/# - the two don't exclude each other.

Have a go at getting somewhere in Sandwell like a pal of mine had to a few months before Xmas. On the council list he needed over 300 other applicants to turn anything he applied for down before his bid with considered. He failed for months to get anywhere and ended up sleeping in his car. He was told to go to a blokes shelter in West brom for somewhere to sleep and given a list of places he could go for free during the day to keep warm. He's couch surfing now. That's reality not a Google search result.

That is not the fucking fault if immigrants but 50 years of do nothing UK governments

If migrants are assessed and given leave to remain they are eligible to apply for social housing
A NTQ is served by the temporary accomodation landlord (usually run by SERCO)
Assessed as being in 'need' by the council and given homeless priority banding
They express an interest (bid) on properties they are eligible for
If they are in a higher band than the other applicants technically it will be offered to them
They can apply for UC HB & lots of other benefits
You can see why local people get fed up, epecially if theyve been trying for years

Until the incentives are stopped, that make crossing the channel worth the risk, nothing will change

I know you didn't but I fancied effing and jeffing about the UK government's Housings policy/strategy - starting with Thatcher and all of em since.

I would have em all in jail if it were up to me. Misfeasance in public office....going beyond mere carelessness or negligence. Knowing full well that doing fuck all for 50 years would create a shitshow for the population as a whole. Bar the baby boomers.

Unfortunately piss poor house building performance added to a huge influx of people equals stop now ffs till it is in order and normal people aren't suffering. So since the days of Maggie have been a shit show but the idiots are the ones that are willing to take a gamble on Reform. How does that equate to sense???

The UK population has risen less than by if we'd have maintained a replacement birth rate even with all this "mass migration" and the fertility rate has been less than replacement since the mid-1970s. Live births peaked in 1921. Birmingham and London have only just surpassed their pre-1939 populations.

I fail to see why this is "mass migrations" fault, as always immigrants are just the convenient scapegoats.

I don't think anyone is disagreeing that there is a severe shortage that needs to be sorted but the 1.5m waiting list won't be solved by not housing immigrants (and when you think about it doesn't impact on the lack of housing if they are being put into HMOs and hotels). Immigration is a reality, asylum seekers are a reality, if you are looking at them as the problem and not the severe underfunding of social housing over the last 30 years then you are being conned. If anyone also thinks that Reform will make one iota of difference then you again are being conned.

If you think communities are going to accept HMOs being allowed in their neighbourhood, next to families and retirees who have worked their arses off to get on the property ladder only to see thousands knocked off their house value, the area going down hill and the inevitable antisocial behaviour that accompanies housing such as this, you are deluded.

The article a few posts above regarding Labour MPs lacking emotional connection to the communities they represent, you have perfectly demonstrated to be the case not only by them but their dwindling supporters.

The arrogance and condescension demonstrated towards dissenting voices is music to Farage’s ears.

I don't think Reform voters are idiots. Just misled. The same people who believed Farage on Brexit are believing he can sort UK out. He can't. And they would do a worse job than Labour and The Tories. Just look at how they are fucking up the councils they are supposed to be running. Whacking council tax up as much as any other party would. They talk easy solutions outside of power and can't deliver in power. Their dismantling of the NHS is another policy that 0people seem to ignore.

But people owe Labour and the Tories nothing. They've failed generations of people. So people can't be blamed for looking elsewhere.

Brexit voting was just a desperate attempt to stop something the government refused to. Reform will be the next attempt. Nothing to lose desperation. Life is getting harder here and if you don't know that it's because you've either been lucky or done well for yourself. Not many blame people coming here for a better life because we'd all do the same. The blame lies with who has allowed it to get out of control. 3 years left and counting. All it would take to turn things round is for Labour to grow a pair.
