Just joining in - tried to reason but went for the GTF approach. The original post was because I thought the different sides having a go at Proth on one hand, and, was it aimed at MICS, with the Timothy posts from the other side was making any sort of debate impossible. All it needed was a fair enough and a reset but the double down arrived so fuck it. Maybe I was just being a bit soft on the run up to Christmas.

Blue Labour, Arf - getting a bit stale still referring to the party that have introduced wealth taxes on pensions and property, a minimum wage increase, sorted the miners pension dispute, introduced bills for getting NEETs into work through training and apprenticeships and are edging towards closer ties with the EU. Whilst doing that they've had a good go at sorting GP appointments out, managing lunatics on both sides that want to radically move Europe to the right, and kept Ukraine in the game without crashing the economy.

But yeah Blue Labour.

Imagine believing that most of these growth killing / aspiration strangling policies were a "good thing".

Imagine being Pat McFadden and trumpeting an expansion of Apprenticeships for hospitality businesses at a time when hospitality has shed 110,000 jobs in a year.

I know exactly what the point of the post was, which was exactly why I responded in the way that I did.

In fairness to Ponty's point I agree (apart from the bit at the end). I was going to post something like this a few weeks ago. I've noticed over the last few months of this year that there has been a real nasty approach to any debate where there is a shutdown if someone has a different view by ridicule, unassociated commentary and general pile on. At a time when I've had a lot going on I haven't had the energy or time to argue with some of the stupidness but it has appeared more recently than ever before.

As Ponty says, Proth is the last person that needs sticking up for as he can hold his own but what I've seen is unpleasant personal attacks rather than debating the points. And it isn't just Proth we're talking about here, BJ and Jacko are both people that I disagree with strongly on some subjects, but some of the personal abuse gets a bit much. There are a number of threads where I've thought what is the point in trying because it is becoming a closed shop.

As we head into another year of who knows what lets just take a step back and try and debate properly for a change.

This was my original post - hardly taking the moral high ground, just trying to get things eased off before they get too bad. You and the gang decided to be arses about it which is fair enough, I'm not that precious to be worried by it. If you want to paint this as High Moral Ground to remove any future debate and repeat ad infinitum (a bit like the Blue Labour line) then that makes it all a bit pointless tbh.

I'll just carry on, I'm not one of those that has to change my profile when things get a bit tough and reinvent myself.

Anybody on here ever suggested that we represent politics. Hard to see what most people want these days - we didn't want the populist type of politician or the ones that crashed the economy with stupid giveaways, but when we get that we actually want someone with a bit more razzamatazz or someone that wants to crash the economy. 

As said above, tried to be reasonable and got slapped down, I'll live.
