Considering the asylum system itself is in an underfunded shambles, with a massive processing backlog, I suspect these proposals will just end up creating an underclass of people living in limbo, not able to work*, not able to study, just dependent on benefits.

Ah, but then I see it states "Mahmood will also revoke the statutory duty to provide support for asylum seekers." So, they'll be dependent on crime then. That sounds workable.

*Even if they do work, the Reform classes resent it, hence the endless sneering at food delivery drivers.

The only silver lining from the next general election is going to see the likes of Ponty going into complete meltdown over the "lefty" Labour voters staying at home or voting Green in protest at the government focusing on trying to win over Reform voters (which isn't going to work, it will just embolden them in voting Reform) and ignoring giving them "lefty" carrots and failing to address productivity, house building and infrastructure development.

This is what the Labour party seem to be forgetting. They were elected by people who voted Labour, not people who voted Reform. It virtually feels like we may as well be governed by Reform already.

Labour under Starmer and his awful ‘advisers’ have no real plan or vision, they are a vacuous bunch who lurch further and further right in the vain hope Reform and Brexity Tory types vote for them… they won’t, unless they get rid of them the Labour Party will be a minority party at the next election.

The fact they are more than happy to purge and alienate thousands on the left of Labour Party in pursuit of untenable votes to the right tells you everything you need to know about the lack of values, credibility and just plain old politic nouse Starmer, McSweeney and the Scottish bloke from Wolverhampton have. It’s absolute madness that only Centrist Dad’s and Blue Labour types believe in.

I have absolutely no idea what a centre-ist dad is. I do think Labour were the only party to vote for at the last election.  The glee felt by many at the lack of their original thought needs to be balanced with the current situation. Bloody Hell! I agree Labour are under-achieving, no doubt, but where else should you vote? The seeds of this damage were planted almost 50 years ago by a party that sowed division and fed on greed.  The very workers that did the hardest jobs, that sweated over molten metals, that built ships or dug coal from a third of a mile underground were not only discredited but branded as enemies, those that didn't die from industrial disease that is. Meanwhile banks and financial snake oil salesmen were the ones leading us to the promised land. Social housing was sold off, as were national- and local - assets,  essential services especially. Newspapers spoke of a post industrial landscape but did not care all it meant was Merry Hill/Metrocentre/Meadowhall, low wages, low skills. Just look at the country now and tell me we were well served by those that told us that it was the workers being too greedy that was the problem.  
Tell me how Sunak winning the election and explaining how bad things really are would be preferable? Surely the most desirable result was exactly what happened, a wipeout? It is going badly, no doubt, how else was it ever going to be?  But the dissatisfaction is primarily fed by outside influences feeding ignorance while ignoring  basic and genuine concerns. I think Labour are poorly prepared and very badly advised, but they were still the best hope for the country I want for my offspring. Fight it from within, surely? Not by giving credence to those that have already caused all the problems.
