Sounds like a good performance from the plucky underdogs today.

Did South Africa play in a shit tournament in midweek? If not, what’s the excuse for this shambles?

I know there are 40 overs left but I think England have won this one. Almost 10 an over needed with four wickets left seems tough.

True, but if we want to win, we need to give ourselves the best chance. The two part time bowlers went for over 100 runs in their 10 overs. If one of them was replaced by a better bowling all rounder, we'd probably have won.

I've not always been a fan of Sam Curran, but he's on fire at the moment and his left arm seam is a good variation to have. McCullum's off-beat selections for white ball and Test teams aren't working out IMO.

McCullum introduced Brook, Smith, Atkinson, Carse, Bashir, Tongue and Bethell to international cricket, and reintroduced Duckett after 5 years in the wilderness. Yes there have been some misses too but I’d say his selection record is excellent. All of these have made match winning contributions and look like they will continue to do so for many years.
When McCullum has used club form as a guide for selection, which you seem to want him to, it’s gone wrong. Sam Cook and Liam Dawson were both picked this summer on the back of solid county records and both were out of their depth on the international stage. Baker was selected on the basis primarily of his performances in the 100 and again was found wanting.
McCullum’s judgement has proven to be a much more successful basis for selection than your so called meritocracy. Bethell is in many ways the archetypal McCullum pick, he’s barely played all summer yet today there he was hitting a magnificent century

Lost the series 2-1. Try again when McCullum wins a series that matters.

Or maybe 2 teams play every game and only 1 can win?

Dead rubber!!..You will see a different SA in the 20/20 series.
One massive plus point for England that’s the best Archers bowled since 2019 WC fingers crossed he keeps fit for the Ashes.

Every series matters doesn’t it? Care to highlight any that don’t?

Absolutely right. Archer is the key to a good Ashes performance. Today is the first time he's looked like the guy who won the World Cup in 2019.
