Most importantly he's a full blown wingback. We need an attacking outlet on that side as Heggem and Styles are both fine defensively but neither have really contributed offensively from that position.
Agree, although I do think Styles could play as a wingback in a 5, but with his height he is overly cautious when asked to play a flat fullback role.

When I saw this initially I thought another Martin Kelly, Bryan, Rogic. However, he did play 36 games for Watford in 2023-4. At Norwich he was an excellent attacking left back, he is quick, but his career has gone downhill since leaving them. He seems to have missed a few games for Northen Ireland, for them he was a major attacking threat and we do well with players from NI.

2.5 weeks left till the season kicks off. What you reckon will happen between now and then?
Squad as it's stands:
GK - Griffiths, Wildsmith
DF - Furlong, Campbell, Phillips, Heggem, Taylor, Bartley, Styles, Frabotta
CM - Molumby, Mowatt, Price, Diakite.
W - Jed, Fellows, MJ, Grant
AM - Bany
ST - Heggebo, Dike, Maja, Cole
Everyone's favourite - Dood. Suggesting there's clubs interested in Cole and Wallace. If they were to go I would like to see 2 ball carrying, goal threatening AM/W come in.
Then if we can move Frabotta on, bring in a LWB.

Think another AM is needed as that is the gap, unless Price plays further forward and so we need another CM in that case. Thats with no more outgoings.
Then any outgoings would need replacing - ideally starting with Frabrotta, Bartley, Wallace and Cole

I think Cole, Wallace and Frabotta will leave on frees, but we will have to pay a fair bit of their wages. I also expect we will sell Fellows for around £15M and maybe Taylor for £2-3M.
Realistically, if we don’t see anyone leave, I think I’d like us to find a capable back up goalkeeper on a free, an older head to have around the place… Schlupp heading to Norwich may give us a free run at Lewis too.
Imagine we are keeping our powder dry on additions until we know about exits, but should we sell the players I’ve mentioned, I don’t think we’d need to replace all of them, just another striker, as Dike and Maja can’t be relied on consistently but in the Odemwingie mould, and another ball carrying wide player/number 10.
I reckon 5 more out and maybe 3 in.

The Kyiv game, albeit a friendly, highlighted the lack of a proper playmaker, someone who can find the space and time to pick a forward pass. None of the current lot fit that brief and, whilst I haven't seen enough of Bany to properly judge, he doesn't seem that player either, he seems more of a Grady type that can carry the ball, but not sure he has a massive range of passing. Styles, maybe, but no-one has tried him there yet since he's been here, which is probably telling.
Maja in the 10 could be the answer, but, again, it's been a long time since we've seen him in action.
LB is a strange one but I think Heggem is still our best option, if Phillips and Campbell can forge a CH partnership.
Still think MJ and or Fellows will go. If so, we will need to replace.
Seems a lot of work in 2.5 weeks!

I think my list probably makes it too blunt where's there's gaps TBF. By position it looks like we have enough cover, bar wide right and LB if Jed doesn't remember how to play football.
GK - Griffith's, Wildsmith, Cisse
RB - Furlong, Campbell
CB - Heggem, Phillips, Bartley, Taylor, Campbell
LB - Styles, Heggem, Frabotta
DM - Diakite, Mowatt
CM - Molumby, Price, Styles
AM - Maja, Bany
RW - Fellows, Wallace
LW - MJ, Grant
ST - Heggebo, Dike, Maja, Cole
Looking at it still, we look like we lack goals from wide/midfield

We've got till the end of August, not ideal changing things after the season starts but that's usually the way it works out.
Agree about the need for a playmaker and also more goals from midfield.

The transfer window is what pisses me off, why doesn’t it shut for when the season starts. There is plenty of time between June and Let’s say 10th August.
Everyone seems to do everything they can to satisfy Premiership and Sky.
