I wouldn't say it's an addiction. A habit mebbees. I like a few beers over the course of the weekend and that can on occasion turn into a binge but then I'll go all week without. There's always wine at home but I'll take it or leave it. I think it is a generational thing. I'm more concerned with the amount of processed food I see being consumed to worry about half a dozen beers here and there.

Sounds obvious, but that was The Fixed Wheel brewery place wasn’t it, on the corner in the old Midlank Bank building?
Sure was.
I’ve never been in so I shouldn’t be shocked. A shocking lack of pubs down there. On Halesowen Road alone there’s been The Castle, The Cooksey, The Vic, Old Hill Labour Club, Sams, The George, The Gate Hangs Well, Haden Hill Rose and Crownall go in the last 35 years.

Keep away from Old Joint Stock and the like and it’s cheaper. I can get a pint of Guinness for £3.90 round here but in Digbeth it’s anything from £4.80 to about £6.
Crazy difference in price though
You forgot the Moot Meet and that's just Old Hill side of the Iron Schools lights. There's loads gone between there and Cinder Bank island.

There's a few gone between there and Pardoes.
Bird In Hand, one next door to that, I think called The Bush, The Loving Lamb, The Junction, Wheelwrights, The Swan (AKA The roundstep), Duke William going off towards Darby End, The Golden Cross and Bunch of Bluebells going towards Saltwells.

I say addiction, as I don't think they can stop.
Although I'm a massive piss head I can at least take a month or two off now and again. Hence the pub closures..

Using an inflation calculator, a pint of beer bought in 1981, when it was around 50p for a pint in the pub should still be under £2 now.
The cost of drinking due to taxation has killed pubs.
As we've shown in numerous threads the whole attitude and pub culture has changed beyond belief.
By the way, entirely agree re processed food. That's the biggest health problem.

I worry this might be a long thread
That was the 4th one I heard of in the space of 2 days. The Fixed Wheel micropub in Old Hill, plus The Crown and The Forresters Arms both in Yoxall. The Forresters owner blamed the Labour government which I thought was risible as the NI and minimum wage hikes don't kick in until April. Clearly times are tough for pubs but have been for a long time.
The Bitter Suite closing was a bit of a surprise. Whenever I went in there was always customers in there but I must admit, I didn't have much love for the place so rarely popped in. I didn't like the table service they insisted on and they used to close at 10.
