I've absolutely no idea on the formalities and I definitely have no ITK knowledge, but here's how the managerial process should work (in my small brain!).
- Periodically board members should meet (monthly/every other month?) to discuss the current manager, his performance, and evaluate our current situation. There should be a risk assessment analysing two scenarios: if he is performing poorly the likelihood we'll need to act and sack him, or if he's performing well, the likelihood he'll be poached. - In either scenario there should be a general job spec of what qualities the club desire in a manager/coaching staff, and there should be some form of shortlist of candidates the club would be happy to pursue should the manger position become available. - Once the position becomes available the club contacts the managers agents and/or club to seek permission to interview. It will also receive CV's and applications which it will sift through and invite any candidates for an interview. - A number of people will interviewed. Maybe 5 or 6? More? This is obviously a long process and rightly will take time. The board needs to assess each individual against a lot of criteria. - Once they've reached a decision the job needs to be offered and agreements with club (if the manger is in current employment), the manger, and the coaching staff, need to be reached. Again I assume this is a lengthy process. If the club omitted any step to rush a decision, then I'd be disappointed. Maybe I'm completely wide of the mark with the above, but in my head those are the rough processes, and I'd imagine we're still very much in the reviewing applications/interview stage. It's not a quick process and I can only guess the club still have no idea who they will offer the job to. Which makes the various links and rumours laughable, in my mind.

If we win today, Abella must be in serious contention.

Not saying that’s he’s not the right man but success in a caretaker role does not mean that the caretaker is right for a long-term contract. Short-termism and fickleness are not what the club needs to move forward with a long-term plan.

There is no reason why Abella shouldn't be considered, but as in most large businesses I would expect him to go through the same interview process as any other applicants. His inside knowledge might give him an advantage, as with any internal job application, but not be the basis for any decision. We dont even know if he wants it. He has his badges and has worked as a number two previously, so this may be the chance he had been waiting for. Alternatively he may be enjoying the security and longevity of position that comes from the data coaching he is doing. What we DO know us that Brunty wouldn't touch the job with yours, so the head coach will need a new team around him. I judge our recruitment process against Stoke's. And if we are doing the opposite, as it appears, I'm quite confident.

Hopefully the powers that be will take their time and then appoint an idiot. This will allow me to continue in my state of abject gloom which is in my DNA having watched the Baggies for most of the last 60 years. Forgive me for not being positive, Ive got that feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Haitenga has seemingly committed to staying at Liverpool
I thought Eustace a week ago, and that remains where my £5 is placed

A very top heavy and long winded approach to managerial recruitment which could see 'the obvious choice' slip through your Amstel stained fingers. Yours, Ron Gourlay .
