For a secular nation they sure do lean heavily into Christian fundamentalism.

If you get chance look up a documentary called hail Satan, that really does a deep dive into why Yankeeland is heavily Christian now (and spoiler alert, it's those god Damned commies from the 40/50s). Before then they barely bible bashed, except in places like Salt lake City etc... , religion was very separate to their state.

Heck their own constitutions states it's a secular nation: “Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion”

I watched a discussion on Newsnight a few weeks ago where an American contributor said that over the past 20 years, the Republican party had become a religious sect.

The irony, of course, is that Trump isn't religious and doesn't go to church. The closest he's come to being religious is the infamous photo-op where he held a bible upside down outside a church (without seeking permission from the church), having had peaceful protestors teargassed to clear the route for him to get there.

Oh and of course the Trump Bible that he sells grifts for $60, which has had passages removed from it that don't fit with his ethos.
