How did this go?

Did it in 3hrs 50. Went well Til 20 miles then hit a wall. Stopped briefly at 22, rang the Missus and she told me to sort myself out! Finished the last mile well but miles 20-25 cost me 15/20mins in total. Pleased to get it done but a bit disappointed at the same time.

Is that your first marathon? Sub-4 is a big milestone so props to you for carrying on at a stage where it is very, very easy to throw in the towel.

Marathons are a completely different beast and I don't think you can truly understand it without doing one. All the training and preparation in the world is no guarantee of the performance you want.

Great effort UCE!

Yep first one. Thanks! Last five miles are unreal. Just surrounded by hundreds of people in trapped in their own personal hell!  Big Grin

Yeah I remember breaking down somewhere around mile 22-23 when I did London. Luckily I happened to stop next to a sports masseur who gave my legs a quick bosh and I was good to go....

...either that or I just stopped by a guy who enjoyed rubbing blokes' legs, either way it worked!

Big Grin

I always think just doing it is an achievement.

Why not put yourself down to do a 1/2 and then a full marathon?

None of us are getting any younger and as the years go by, middle age spread may catch up with you if you’re not careful.

Eh?

I've ran a full marathon, and at least a dozen half marathons.

Fair enough then. When did you run the full one?

Any more planned?

London 2019.

Last half I ran was Brighton last year, but no plan for any more any time soon. Would like to get back into serious distances in 2025.

Fair play.

I can imagine you will be pre-occupied when your newborn arrives.

Entered the ballot for London.

Although if I am picked I may defer to 2026 to give myself extra time to prep.
