Really struggling to warm to the new FF7, played a few hours but just can’t warm to it so far.

It took me longer than I expected since I'm a massive FF7 fan, but it does hook you in eventually. If you remember the OG, the first part leaving midgar was a bit lacklustre while they opened the story up, rebirth suffering a similar issue. Get to Costa Del Sol and onwards really starts to grab you in.

Spent ages in the first bit after Kalm doing all the sidequests, need to get on with the actual story.

Still got Cyberpunk waiting for a 2nd playthrough. Got the platinum before they 'fixed' the game. So should be a very different experience.

Regarding my Last of Us 2 second run-through - I assume I don't need to warn about potential spoilers from a game that was released 4 years ago, but here is the warning!

I'm just at the Abi section, after finishing Ellie's main plot. It's such a bizarre game to sum up. I'm enjoying playing through it again, but I just can't get my head around the story and how ridiculous it is that someone travels across an apocalyptic 'Merica full of vicious bandits and infected, just to avenge the death of someone they've known for single digit years and whom they had a patchy-at-best relationship with. It's actually fucking stupid.

Gameplay wise, it's amazing. It really is.

Despite the utter nonsense of a story, what I do like about what Naughty Dog tries, and arguably succeeds in doing, is switching the usual narrative in story telling, and really makes you think about who is 'good' and who is 'bad'. On my second play through, already knowing the full story, Ellie really doesn't come across well, and I actually dislike her, whereas I actually quite like Abi. Which is the complete opposite of my first play through. That's some achievement, in fairness, and is a strong story to tell in itself. It's a shame that the actual plot that gets you there is just awful.

Graphically, and character modelling/motion capture/acting-wise, it's a masterpiece. Such a beautifully built world that creates a chilling and immersive atmosphere.

What a ridiculously brilliant, frustrating, bizarre, stupid but ultimately wonderful game.

Thasit in a nutshell. Good guy are actually the bad guys. Makes you question it in a way no other game does.

I haven't watched the TV series, so I don't know how closely it sticks to, or how much it strays away from the video game, but it'll be interesting to see the reception of the Abi/Ellie storyline from those who only watch the series.

It really is stupid, so I'm sure it'll cop some negativity! They'll surely come up with a better written story that's loosely based on the plot but make it more realistic and believable, somehow. I'm not sure how, mind!

The story of the first game is very believable. I.e you can justify risking your life and travelling across the US in order to deliver the potential saviour for mankind to the Fireflies, who could have a cure to the virus. That makes sense to me.

Tv series deviates enough to make it workable for a different medium and still retain the essence of Ellie and Joel’s relationship. 2nd game will be 2 series at least they’ve said, will be interesting to see how the portray it. But I am a self confessed fan of that world and the story.

Despite being quite faithful to game one, the star of the show surely won't be killed off in episode 2 or whatever. So I'd guess it will be heavily character-based episodes like the superb Bill episode from s1, and Joel will feature heavily throughout the season somehow.

A lot of flashbacks I reckon.

Or a dual timeline running for the duration of the series.

The whole gameplay has changed completely with the weapon mods and how you level up "V"

Like a complete new game when you get round to it and the additional content is superb
