The reality of our finances

We comitted the sin of many a promoted team who survive a few years, thinking that now we're on the gravy train we won't fall off it.

Then we committed to long-term deals for players who weren't good enough, paid them over the odds, and gave them options in their favour. Then we gave the likes of Grant and Diangana long deals to help spread the fees, with no though to the long-term effects of committing that spending.

And now we're here; following a well worn path from Premier League mid-table mediocrity to League 1 promotion hopefuls. Some knew this was coming, others stuck their head in the sand.

The priority now is that ensuring the club still exists for future generations, whatever level it ends up competing at. That's easier said than done; we can't afford to buy it it as a fan base, and most prospective buyers with any nous will wait for the inevitable administration to try and get us at a reduced price. All we can do is turn up, support whatever team we have left come deadline day, and protest the owners until they're gone.

That first paragraph about the summer of 2017 is bang on

Stoke also did it and spunked even more on a load of lazy half arsed footballers

It is but doesn’t excuse the years of shite, thoughtless signings like Zohore, Ivanovic and Grant since or the mindless contract renewals for average players.

Oh agreed - there have been numerous appalling signings since 2017

Very Sad state of affairs

Wasnt so long ago Tony Mowbray bought in Dorrans Morrison Brunt Molumbo & lots of others
Followed on by Roy Hodgson great work
8th in League table under TP
Then the bald twat screwed us up buy selling to the chinese tosser for way over the price it was worth
Greed by one individual
Followed by a series of bad decisions by others

What a total fuckup

Unless we get a wealthy new owner that loves the club

I honesly cant see us ever back in that league

And the ultimate irony being we paid fuck all for that lot!

A good recruitment department headed up a class operator can save you and make you millions. Ours has now been shite for way too long....

What’s the point in protesting if potential owners will only buy us whilst we are in administration? Prolonging that process only damages the club further and imo that’s all we are doing, prolonging the inevitable.

We've managed it more recently than that too! I think Bilic's managerial skills sometimes leave a lot to be desired but he managed to build a promotion team that was primarily made up of cheap acquisitions and loans.

He screwed it up a year later, but there are players out there.

Its a league of several leagues anyway and not one that in reality is much fun for most fans or clubs who make up the numbers anyway. The wider game leaves a tricky reality of what is even desirable or an achievement for a fan these days

Our recruitment under Ashworth was exceptional.  It died with his departure, but we need to resurrect it as a priority.  That, plus properly exploiting our very good Academy, is the future.

We need somebody who can scour League 1, League 2 and the Scottish leagues, as well as establish a decent foreign scouting network.  It could be the most important role that we fill, seeking out young, hungry players with big upside potential.

What’s Big Dave doing now?  He must have noticed some really good talent in League 1 last season.

What worries me is being able to keep CC.

In previous interviews he's clearly stated he knows of the need to sell players, but the Palmer situation seems different given his post match comments yesterday. It's almost like he's previously gone to the Board and said we need to keep certain players for him to build around......Palmer, Townsend, Mulumby, Wallace, BTA......a bid comes in for one and it's apparently accepted = CC pissed off.

Other than Palmer why has nobody come in for the above players? Surely they are our most saleable assets, and yet nothing (apparently).

If you were Cardiff and you could have Grant or BTA, you would pick BTA surely?

I can see CC going to Leeds by the beginning of next year, once they get rid of Farke.
