It's The Ashes (again)
Less than 2m forecast after 11am. Would be shocked if there’s not a result, if that turns out to be the case.

Here’s hoping, after an exciting four days it’s be a real shame if it was rained off for a draw.

It'll take a lot to get the outfield playable once the rain stops (13:00 according to Met Office app right now). No play before 14:00, maybe even 15:00? Edgbaston ground staff are excellent. Two sessions (60 overs) max, a session and a half seems about right, so 45 overs? I'm not sure what the craic is with making up for lost time on the final day. Pragamist? Anyone else know?

We're in the hands of the Rain God now and how quickly the ground staff can drain the outfield. It'll be a shame if rain spoils the finale of a superb Test match.

Shame if it is rained off as its been a great game. We've got weather warnings for rain all day here.

Looks like losing the morning session, clear the outfield and there are still 50 to 60 overs available. Nail-biting stuff, I have work I can't avoid this morning but I'm tempted to try my luck getting in later.

Persistent rain here in B17 till around 1pm. Then a 3 hour window of (hopefully) dry weather with some sunshine. It is all about how quickly it can be playable after the rain ceases. A potentially superb test match, let's hope we see a favourable conclusion rather than rain.

Australia’s extra 175 required are a long way away, but if ever there was a time for Australia to create history (beating their own highest ever winning score there) it’s tomorrow with England probably having to rely on Root if it’s turning.

I’m still predicting an England win but the margin might well be less than 20 runs

England hammered 378 against India last year.... but otherwise yes, that score by SA is the highest. Going to be a tough chase for the Aussies, but they can definitely do it. Squeaky bum time. Going to be a great day of test cricket.

Hopefully we get some cloudy conditions to take advantage of like the Aussies did at the start of our second innings.

Let's also not forget the 2005 Ashes test at Edgbaston.... 279 all out chasing 282. Not sure I can cope with drama like that now I'm nearly 20 years older.

Saw a pic of the ground still in sunshine as 8.15pm last night and a comment that it was the latest time that they could theoretically be playing tonight but I’m not sure what the exact playing regulations are.

I think the latest they can play is 7:30pm. Last night it was 7pm, but not sure if they can add another 30 minutes if a result is close?

According to the cricinfo live comms, we can keep going as long as the light holds and the umpires allow tonight.

So Broady could still be steaming in at 8:30 trying to create his own "Jones.... Bowden..... Kasprowicz the man to go" moment.
