Mike was diagnosed 2 years ago with bowel cancer & it was manageable up until a few weeks ago when he wasn't feeling too good, luckily he was due his 6 monthly CTscan 2 weeks ago & follow up with his Consultant where he was told he had a perforated bowel & it was palliative care only, he held on for a week but died peacefully & pain free on Tuesday.

& those of you of a certain age who get those (FIT)  self testing kits & ignore them like he did, you know it makes sense to get checked out so please do it's not the nicest of things to do but it takes literally seconds

Paula, first and foremost condolences to yourself and your family; even at this most trying of times there is a quiet civility to your posts which should be an example to us all.

I totally endorse the second part of your post: it's not something any of us much fancy, it's not infallible, but it is worthwhile.

Best, as always, Oss

Hi Paula,

Just to say so sorry for your loss, not least after your husband having seemingly survived the dreaded C.

And just to reiterate your plea.  I tested negative three years running only then to find as a result of blood in my poo (!) that I had bowel cancer.  Was told the old tests (which I was given) were only 95% exact.  The new ones (since 2019) are a 100% accurate. My consultant told me the cancer (slow growing) was 3-5 years old! Luckily it was stage 2 and he whipped it out.  Still clear as I write but please guys - after 60, take the test.  And cut down on processed food!

Hi Paula
You have been the mainstay of this thread for years so to read now you have been directly affected is very sad. Hope you're ok and you have family & friends around you.
Thank you also for the bowel cancer information (and others here). I'm 62 so will get a test done.
RIP Mike.

Back up one?
I'm not so sure about this sitting in the "Important threads" section. It's always going to sit at the top. I thought the idea was it floats and continues to rise to the top of the normal threads section. What do others think?
