Not dismissing these figures but at least a third of those are incidental Covid cases meaning a positive test in the last 14 days. We have to be careful how this data is portrayed.

I wouldn’t get sucked into this world of ‘incidental’ cases, I’ve alway reprinted on the comparable facts. The numbers in hospital have gone up, a lot, so lets not underplays this. The hospitalisations are up a lot.

But you can't just dismiss it either. Last week the stats dictated that 1 in 20 people in London had Covid so even by that basic logic 5% of people going into hospital could quite easily have had Covid. And the stats look at 14 days not 7. And there are clearly people picking Covid up after admission to hospital too. It stands to reason that if Covid is highly present in the community then it will also be in people being admitted to hospital.
I recall us having this discussion last November when my Dad was admitted to hospital after falling down the stairs and fracturing his back. He was repeatedly tested for Covid and yet was clearly not in hospital due to anything connected with Covid in any way. The fact that it is more prevalent now is only going to enhance the figures.

And here’s the kicker, if someone picks up covid in hospital, does that’s not count?

But if that is consistent it is the correct measure

In terms of counting as hospitalisations you mean?
Well yes but considering that official daily case numbers have jumped from averaging 40-50k per day from a couple of weeks back to 180k today then it is hardly surprising that 'people in hospital WITH Covid' has increased. I am not saying that nobody is going into hospital to be treated for Covid but recent reports indicate that at least 35% of patients are Covid' positive but not being treated for Covid.
Daily cases have tripled over the last week or two - will hospitalisations triple too? Time will tell I guess

Hospitalisations have increased by 40% in 3 days - that is a huge amount whichever way you try and portray it

There is a suggestion though that discharges are lower this time of year, and London may have peaked.
As I posted earlier there seems to have been a change of narrative. Even Jenny Harries is almost positive.

Genuinely, I’m positive as well, and have been for a couple of weeks but we need to not be complacent. This fucker kicks
