Well that logic is bullshit. The same stupid statement that Javid said about the politicians not needing to wear masks in the House of Commons because they know each other
People can catch Covid from anyone and there is nothing to suggest that the people in my office are any safer to be around then anyone else. There is no regular testing so what's the difference?
The same way that once a person in a family is infected it nearly always ends up the case that others in the family also test positive.
I understand that masks only offer partial protection but the point is there is inconsistency in the rules.

So basically your logic dictates that we either shut everything down or we don nothing. You don’t allow for any nuance here where we know that the best course of protection against transmission is to close everything and the worst course of action is to do nothing. The politicians have decided to do something whilst we learn about this new variant that means we can continue without closing businesses. But your argument is that doing something rather than nothing or everything isn’t logical.
Lets start with understanding where you stand. Do you think that masks help to reduce transmission?

Not sure why I have to justify whether masks reduce transmission. I can only go on what so called experts tell me.
If they do reduce transmission then great - implement them in scenarios where there is an increased risk and not cherry picked locations such as shops and public transport. Not sure if you are going to the Albion this season but the mask wearing must be at best 5% on the concourse and walking around the stadium. All I am saying is that when you implement measures but then only mandate them in specific settings you encourage people to defy the rules. If as you say there is a nuance to this argument then of course doing something is better than doing nothing. However after 18 months of this people are getting bored so half hearted measures are less likely to be tolerated.

OK have it your way - close restaurants and pubs. That’ll work.

Likewise if you think that introducing masks in shops and on public transport is going to have a significant impact then fair enough. It smacks of being seen to do something no matter how pointless it is. Boris banging on about testing for incoming passengers on the day we announce the variant is already in the country says it all.
Telling people to get boosters whilst scaremongering that the new variant can escape the vaccines. The whole press conference was a booster sales pitch. Boris couldn't even answer the question about masks but stated that 'Saj' will advise further. Utterly clueless.

So you think the international scientific community have made up this variant to help Boris get an uptake in boosters?

It's all about the optics. It's all about being seen to be doing "something".
I'm double vaxxed awaiting a booster. I've also had Covid. I'm a living breathing antibody machine.
Yet apparently it's safe for me to sit at the Albion with thousands of others in the Brummie, but not safe to travel on the train there. It's as ludicrous as the earlier rule that if you're standing up in a pub you need a marsk, but sitting down you don't. Let's not even consider that the highest rates of infection in the UK are in marsked Wales, and infections across marsked Europe are increasing exponentially.
Vaccinations are the exit from Covid. Not marsks.

Arf just what is it that upsets / terrifies right winger about masks? Is it the fact they help others as well as oneself?

Vaccinations, masks, working from home, washing hands, testing and isolating when you have symptoms are the best way forward without shutting businesses and locking down. It really is incredible that we can get to this point in the pandemic and some still don’t understand it is pooling everything at our disposal to fight this and implementing them.

It’s a weird ideological problem the right wingnuts have with masks. Take a look at SM and see who are moaning about them.
