Because they brought in quality loan players on 70k+ a week while also bringing back quality former players like Anguissa. Net spend is not important it’s their wage budget.

Who is on £70k a week? I doubt Aina and Lookman are. Possibly Lemina. £5k more a week than Ivanovic then. Don’t sign him, Peltier and Kipre and you could afford Aina and Lemina.

 They brought one player back: Anguissa who is admittedly superb.

They identified weak areas, Parker was ruthless and not overly loyal to his players and they brought in better players than they had. We did neither bar Gallagher. In fact we have played players who couldn’t get into our Championship XI!

Oh and they clearly work on set pieces.

Decent recruitment is the difference, weren't obsessed with bringing in a load of players from the previous season.

Wonder what their wage bill is compared to ours?

Loftus Cheek is on 150k for starters. Lookaman is on at least 70k. Leipzig pay big wages. Lemina the same. Anguissa the same. Robinson is on 50k. Andersen, Aina and Tete all on big contracts. We can’t compete financially with them and that’s why all the players we would potentially like such as Andersen or Robinson go to them
