Teenage Kicks

My teenage years started with Frankie Goes To Hollywood and ended with The Happy Mondays and The Charlatans, with a bit of Curiosity Killed The Cat and Erasure sandwiched inbetween. What a time to be alive!

For one song that epitomises the carefree teenage days I’d go for The First Picture Of You by the Lotus Eaters in the summer of 83. I was 17, had my first girlfriend, it was a great summer and life was a breeze.

‘Music’ was one of the first singles I ever bought. Got to admit I can’t remember any other song of his.

Can’t say it’s ringing anymore than a very, very distant bell Jacko. I probably thought it was Pilot at the time. It’s quite pleasantly catchy though.

Edit : Might be mistaken, but on listening again, it seems to have influenced both ‘s-s-s-single bed’ by Fox and David Essex’s ‘Brave New World’ from the War of the Worlds album. Fox were utter shite, but I did like ‘Brave New World’ back in the day.

Give me a clue mate. I think ‘yampy’ must be a Brummie or Black Country word.

Edit : No need. I’ve looked it up. Seemed a bit spaced out to me - I’m on Top of the Pops and I don’t really give a shit.

The John Miles Highfly has been known to be confused with a Jigsaw one hit wonder called Sky High
