Summer Transfer Window Thread

Unrealistic. Not sure it is sinking in how little we will have to spend (unless you are factoring in sales). Above all else we need someone to score goals

@wbareport
Is what John Percy claims about a £20M transfer budget true then?

@chrislepkowski
Absolutely. Perce isn't spoon fed by club. He will have had that piece stood up by several sources. I think he said 'more than 20m' so 25m would be realistic from all that is being said. Given the huge losses incurred by clubs, there will be an inevitable hit on budgets.

Let's hope they spend more if the right players become available - would be a bonus. But right now we have the prospect of a second wave of this plague and more beyond. Understandable they may not to spend too much given the likely hit on revenue streams

“More than £20m” means exactly that. A could be quite a lot more than £20m!

If it is not 60m+ then it is an immediate return to the Chumps league. Blades had a solid squad and spend 60m+. Villa needed a rebuild and spent 140m and scraped staying up. It is naive to think major investment won't be necessary to stay in the PL. Spending 60m+ will mean the slight ability to compete for 17th. Minimal investment and thinking Slav can do it will just result in a season like Norwich just had

It’s not about how much we spend in headline figures on transfer fees, it’s about who we sign.  There are lots of players out there who will cost modest transfer fees because they only have a year left on their contracts. There are lots of players from abroad who will cost a lot less than buying from the Premier League.  We need to recruit wisely and ensure value for money.  We could easily recruit well and spend £40m, or just as easily spend £80m badly.

Nowadays there isn't some fixed budget like that.

Its much more complicated than that.

Budgets this year will be half or a third of last seasons budgets in the prem due to revenue streams running dry. Teams in divisions below probably have no budget, at all. Meaning players from those divisions will be a lot cheaper.

Today's clickbait, Albion join Lille in race to sign Rangers striker Alberto Morelos for £17 million.

I dispute the need to spend a set figure, such as sixty squillion. If we signed up Dia, Rob, and Krov, as well as spent on a promising young striker I'd be happy, but even that could be beyond our budget. We must also blood the yoof; it's time more yunguns had the chance to perform. Bilic is right in saying we should reward the promotion winners. The squad is young enough for it to develop.

Hopefull we can sell some peripherals (Burke/Zohore/one of Kanu-Austin) and also generate a little cash.

Can someone confirm when Lepko became ITK again? I thought he was still slating the club on social media at any opportunity?

I’d love Morelos... mad as a box of frogs, but is that high energy, hard working, horrible bastard of a striker we need. Charlie Adam is urging them to sell him for £8m... let’s do it Big Grin

In fairness the one good thing about Rangers is that they’d probably be open to Burke! £10m + Burke and throw in Harper on loan!

Morelos is a very interesting one - clearly a real talent but my fear is he’d spent a third of the season suspended

Agree it’s always a concern with him, but he has improved this season... 6 yellows in 40 something games, and a couple reds - but they were both from second yellows.

Players mellow with age and experience... Mitrovic at Newcastle had more reds than goals when he first arrived... now look at him!
