Those Championship play off and fa cup semi final defeats were painful but he got us there and then took us up in style. He was naive in the premier league for sure but he will have learned from that and he is a much more experienced manager now.

Firstly  I am absolutely delighted he's overcome his cancer battle. Secondly I can't think of anyone better to take over from CC, steady the ship and keep us competitive whilst we navigate this transition with FFP. If he can't get us up I firmly believe he will have us in the hunt whilst playing decent football.

Mowbray is a class operator and a top bloke. Never any excuses. Never gets carried away after a win and never too down after defeats.

Good luck Tone and welcome home.
Bang on Peachy. Saved me the bother of writing the same post!  Smile

All the best Mogga, look forward to welcoming you back!

We'll play lovely football  and win nothing.

What happened to the forward-looking progressive long term strategy that the new owners championed which was a breath of fresh air?

I wish him the best of luck,  but this is a bit like bringing Johnny Giles back for a second stint.  It did not go well.

I will be delighted if proven wrong.

Is it? Before my time, what was Giles record in the intervening years?

He was manager of Shamrock Rovers after the Albion. I don't know when that ended but I don't think he had been in football for a few years before coming back to us. I think we enticed him out of retirement.

No doubt somebody will put me right  Smile

So a load of bollocks then? Comparing the two?

Possibly. The comparison would be that a manager who everybody revered came back. Everybody was excited and the good times were assured. Turned out to be the opposite.

I'm pretty sure Giles retired again after that.

Giles was player/manager at Shamrock 77-81ish then manager of Vancouver Whitecaps 81-83, then us again 84. Retired after that.

Now you mention it, I'd forgotten about him bringing Carl Valentine to the club after managing him in Canada.

Mogga wasn't high on my choices list, and I'm happy to admit that, but he's here now and he got us promoted last time so let's see what happens. All the Best Mogga, glad to see him fit and well too.
