The cup was clearly not a priority and that’s fair enough.

Winning games is a better tonic than rest. Any footballer worth playing wants to play, and not sit on his arse.

How many clubs outside the top six have won the cup in the last twenty years?
How many Footballers sit at home thinking 'I want to finish 8th in the Prem'.

I reckon it's more than the amount of Footballers that think 'I want to lift the FA Cup'...

A much more accurate question is how many footballers sit at home thinking “I wish I earned £100k a week”?

Finishing 8th in the Prem will get them closer to that ambition than winning the Cup.
The sad accuracy of greedy Footballers who have no real love of the game.

For some it’s just a job. We all loved Olsson but he felt that way.

Is that why he tried to get sent off every game, the hot head....

Sarcastic post, tongue firmly in cheek.

At least he gave 110% every game. Couldn't give a fuck if they love the game or not as long as they doing what they're being paid obscene amounts to do..

So should we just stick the u16's out by your logic? Get back to the prem and still not win anything?

My logic is this we build a squad capable of competing in the cup and league that may give us an outside chance of winning the cup but be comfortable in the league. I don’t think our squad has been in that position more than a couple of times. No one juat wants to be cannon fodder to the top six but better that than be cannon fodder for Champuonship clubs like we were before the Prem money rolled into the club.

Given the reality of just two clubs in twenty years winning the Cup outside the top six I think it’s folly to expect it to be a priority of ours when we are trying to win promotion.

Couldn’t agree more, my point is that not all players have these romantic notions of glory. Many just want to maximise their earnings while they can and live the life of a footballer.

That may be. But ask a footballer whether he wants to finish 8th in the Prem or win a trophy, the majority would pick the trophy. Finishing 8th is meaningless.

Who finished 8th in the Prem in 1999?

Who won the FA Cup in 1999?

You ask many footballers which pays more and you’ll get a different answer.
