I always give as much space as possible if walking in the same direction as a female, in an isolated situation in order to pass by. I cross the road if it is possible especially late at night. I have done this for 30 years or more.
I also step as far wide from oncoming females and even some males as I can and I ensure there is eye contact or some sort of recognition that I am doing that to put the situation at ease.
It could be that I have been aware of this type of thing professionally for many years and don't find it at all difficult, but actually I think it's because I have manners and care about others.
It seems this is type of consideration is beyond some on this forum and it doesn't surprise me who it is.

I tend to refrain from stalking lonely roads late at night. Less chance of getting run over keep crossing roads. Eye contact round here tends to lead to a "what the fuck are you looking at weirdo?" situation.

I also tend to do the exact same thing as others have said. Cross the road, or give a wide berth, and if there's no opportunity to cross (I live in a village where most of the roads only have one path) and I'm behind someone else, I tend to slow right down, pretend to take a call or stop to read my phone or whatever, to give them some space.
I myself can get a little paranoid when someone is walking close or seeming to follow me, so I can't imagine what it's like for women given the situations we all know about.
And for those that can't see the benefit of behaving like this at all... well it's not a surprise who it is, is it.

It should be remembered that the Met boss Dick was the person who ordered the murder of an innocent electrician because of his skin colour.

Yep, that's what happened.
I mean, I’ve been described before as anti police, but...

My experiences of dealing with the police over the years has generally led to me thinking that too many are a bit twisted, and a bit thick.
Sad to say that.

Jess Phillips on Andrew Marr very eloquent on this whole issue.
"In Birmingham city centre last night I saw several traffic wardens out ticketing cars. Why can't they be deployed ensuring young women get home safely? We're a society that values cars above women".
And the low sentences for rape and especially stalking (which must be terrifying) compared with some crimes against property.
"But we have legislation coming through which is designed to protect statues, and no mention of these issues".
She's very real.
