WBA season stats 2020/21
Quick look at non penalty xGD per game in the Premier League.

West Brom 20th. -1.50 npxGD per game. Really worrying early signs.

It’s some bullshit statistic that people use when they try to be clever about football.

“Expected goals” means absolutely nothing. Actual goals means a lot more.

Cheers. "Expected goals" I've heard of. Didn't make that connection with the abbreviation.

Now I'm puzzled by the "non penalty" bit. Or, specifically, why "non penalty" needs to be mentioned. I thought all "expected goals" we're as a result of open play.

As an aside, I would be interested in knowing what our, or any team's, "penalty xGD" would be!

Only one stat matters in a league season.

Points earned.

In a match, goals scored and goals conceded.

Those 3 stats are all that matters  everything else is only useful for coaches and such to see what can be changed and what to plan what training sessions to do.

You really are a dinosaur Duffers. The game has changed since you were a nipper. Football has evolved. I really hope for the sake of football in general you learn to appreciate analysts.

I appreciate goals for, goals conceded and points earned. Everything else is irrelevant.

Some of the best teams in the world play counter attacking football with minimal possession. I’m sure Leicester for instance were devastated that their XG wasn’t high when they were parading that trophy around.

We've played 5 games. Way too early to be analysing stats especially as we've yet to get our new signings up to speed.

One other thing, having looked at the stat again, are we creating MINUS 1.5 "expected goals" per game? How does that work? Anybody care to explain for me? Baby words please  Smile
