And it's almost certainly a when not an if.

I'm not advocating getting rid of it, but it really needs to get back to doing what it says on the tin regarding impartiality, accuracy and honesty.

This utterly deranged social media post by Trump from yesterday is a perfect example of something that you won't be seeing the BBC reporting on. The BBC twists itself into a pretzel in its endless efforts to normalise this insanity.

From the article

'On Saturday, Trump appeared to again threaten sending troops to Chicago.

In a post on Truth Social, the president shared an image evoking the film Apocalypse Now. The post reads: "'I love the smell of deportations in the morning ...' Chicago about to find out why it's called the Department of WAR."'

I meant regarding his mental state. The above text is just passing off such posts as something perfectly normal, rather than being the rantings of a madman.

It's reporting the facts. That's its job, not to give a medical opinion on his mental state. They have left that for you to decide

The problem is the BBC ever since Brexit have treated impartiality by presenting two sides to an argument equally but they never are in reality. For example you bring on an expert with thirty years experience of man made climate change, whose studied and lectured on the subject at the best universities across the globe to Newsnight, sitting opposite the expert is an Ann Widdecombe sort, arguing it’s hugely exaggerated or even a myth. That isn’t balanced reporting it’s lazily elevating nonsense popularism to the same status as scientific rigour.

The BBC long gave up on impartiality in favour of some bizarre notion of balance.

I think this is right.

We all to some extent believe that impartiality is achieved when our own opinions and beliefs are parroted back to us.

The irony here surely isn't lost on anyone?

BBC News certainly went into bat regarding Biden's mental state - they talked about it for virtually 3 weeks. Is Trump's mental state not relevant to what he's doing?

They also waxed lyrical about Reform's conference and that "Labour turmoil is a gift for Reform". Those are things that we don't need to decide for ourselves then?

Apparently it isn’t Brexit any more, It’s Boris Johnson’s Brexit - watch the subtle change in reporting the greatest mistake in our political history.
