Good piece, but if we are to improve we are not going to do this by selling players at low prices. £3 million for a young keeper is ridiculous. If he goes to Luton what would they value him at?
On an even more pessimistic note the average turnover for a club in League One is about £5 million
Palmer isn’t “young”, he’s 27 next week By goalkeeping standards that is not old, for an outfield player agreed

Ffs we know where the club is financially and we realise that selling players is necessary. It’s insulting people’s intelligence to suggest we don’t. However what we are doing is not a realistic business model, there is no strategy whatsoever it’s just an exercise in kicking the administration can down the Brummie Road. Without any investment and relying on becoming a completely self sufficient club will see us relegated.. then what? Cut our cloth accordingly to League One? How long and hard do we have to kick the cam down the road until we find a new owner?
I see nothing in terms of a footballing structure that suggest we have the scouting network to make this work for more than one or two seasons at best.
If CC is a success before the end of December another club will poach him and I doubt he will turn it down given the state we are in and then what?
Our business plan seems to be kick the can down the road as looooooonnnnngggg as possible, that is hope nothing else. Whether it’s at the end of this season or next I cannot see where our current plan leads us other than administration unless Corberan the Magician performs a miracle. Which is completely unfair on him and the players left behind after this skip fire has ended.

Reality is we need someone daft/creative enough to take us over and have a surplus of cash they are willing to inject.

Exactly. Until that happens, all we can do is keep the wolf from the door for as long as possible.

Agreed but he’s not 21 and that’s around the age where big fees get paid for very good young English keepers.

Well we’ve apparently been trying to sell Griffiths all summer but haven’t had an acceptable offer yet, and time is fast running out. We can only sell Griffiths is there is a buyer for him. Maybe we’ve been asking too much for him? It is clearly a surprise that an acceptable offer for Palmer came in first.

Truth be told, our finances have been in a state since the Summer of 2017. It was the deals we committed to that Summer which created problems in the cash flow, compounded by the relegation that followed. We comitted the sin of many a promoted team who survive a few years, thinking that now we're on the gravy train we won't fall off it.
Then we committed to long-term deals for players who weren't good enough, paid them over the odds, and gave them options in their favour. Then we gave the likes of Grant and Diangana long deals to help spread the fees, with no though to the long-term effects of committing that spending.
And now we're here; following a well worn path from Premier League mid-table mediocrity to League 1 promotion hopefuls. Some knew this was coming, others stuck their head in the sand.
The priority now is that ensuring the club still exists for future generations, whatever level it ends up competing at. That's easier said than done; we can't afford to buy it it as a fan base, and most prospective buyers with any nous will wait for the inevitable administration to try and get us at a reduced price. All we can do is turn up, support whatever team we have left come deadline day, and protest the owners until they're gone.
