Of course I'm aware Utd's true rivals are Liverpool, before anyone calls me out.
The proliferation of "limbs" is another reason why I hate modern football.

Because their fans can be trusted to behave.
Really? Old Trafford is one of the most horrible and oppressive grounds in the country and Maine Road was even worse! Not sure about the new place as only been twice, but doubt it will be much different.
Far more likely to get lamped at either of those than the Hawthorns.
More to do with the fact that they play each other multiple times every season and they are better at policing inside the ground and organising ticket allocations.

And the fact it costs an arm and leg to attend?

You know what? I'm going to allow this.

When I lived in Manchester, especially when City were still at Maine Rd, the games were strict midday kick offs with no pubs in the area open before or after. Pretty sure there was minor riot after one Maine Rd game near my student halls.
As others have said, these days the importance has been diluted and the games sanitised to the point it's just another fixture for the tourists inside the ground. It was really noticeable watching on telly how little atmosphere there was, even when City were behind. Their fans just turn up and wait to be entertained.

Compare and contrast the atmosphere at the Manchester derby with that at the AFC Wimbledon vs Milton Keynes game. It's poles apart, one actually means something and the other is a TV show.

I don't think Sky care one jot about the day out. It's far more interested in overseas rights and subscriptions. As someone else said, it's more of a TV show.

I kinda see where you're going with this. But no one wants to see violence or agro at games. It should be a safe environment for all to attend.
A few years ago, Yeltz V Stourbridge was a really great and hostile atmosphere, but due to a handful of kids chucking stuff at opposition fans, and fighting outside the ground, it has become a sterile atmosphere, as fans are now segregated and there is a police presence. Both clubs are 100% correct to take this course of action, but it has killed the atmosphere off.
Why can't fans create that atmosphere without acting like Neanderthal cunts, and ruining the experience for the majority of decent fans.

Nobody has said act like idiots but making a game goes hand in hand with not being like its a day out at cinema......and when it's like that people stand up and the vicious circle arises ......I'm up in the heavens in the East stand so it doesn't affect me but the stewards are being like storm troopers in the millennium corner and leave the Smethwick alone
