Neither.

We should be spending better.

So it doesn't matter where they come from, or how much they cost, they just need to be good? Sounds like a plan.

Well... that's the point of scouting isn't it? And ours could learn a fair bit from it.

But, there are plenty of players out there that are good enough for us... so that's when decisions are made, and my preference is to invest a couple million into a player aged 21-24 on lower wages who we know may make a couple of mistakes, but ought improve rather than pay huge wages to someone aged 30 who we know will only go downhill.

I don't disagree mate, quite the opposite, but a lot of shit gets thrown at the club for not spending big, especially with the Pereira money burning hole in their pockets.

But for a club like us the transfer sweet spot is to sign players in the 21 to 24 age bracket, for a low ish fee, with the potential to improve and make a profit.

Nothing irritates me more than loans for players we will never be able to buy, who become integral to the team.

And close behind that category are the signings of seasoned professional, closer to 30, than 20, or maybe over 30. They come taking a 3 year wage commitment and realistically very little prospect of ever selling for a transfer fee. Sometimes these type of players can have a significant short term impact which absolutely justifies their purchase, but only ever bringing in these type of players causes long term stagnation.

Amen.

We ought to be scouring the lower leagues and hoovering up whatever talent we can. QPR have picked up some bargains in the last couple of seasons through very shrewd transfers and with our owners being as disinterested as they are, we have to aim for a return on every penny we spend going forward. Rob Dickie is arguably the best CB in the division, and moved to QPR for little over a million, McCallum and Dozell are similarly very good prospects who will contribute and improve there.  Swansea picking up Downes for £1.5m from Ipswich is another incredibly smart move and he's a player who'd have been perfect for our system yet we didn't even sniff.

So many strong players out there, and I bet we end up paying a fortune to Andre fucking Gray.

Fooking ace couple of posts thems are, bravo.

One of the issues we have is that we have been, and still are, straddling the divisions. Lets not forget we have made some decent purchases recently on what i would call championship signings in Semi, Furlong, Townsend and even Sawyers and Robinson (how good does that deal look now?). Looks like Mowatt is another one. Where we have struggled is in identyfying players that could help us compete in the PL with Grant and Grady being the most recent examples.

I also think our use of the loan system has generally been good in the Champ with our "first picks".  Barnes, Gayle, Grady and now Clarke looking to be key players within the season.  I would say out of those only Barnes came with no prospect at all of a perm.

We have cut a lot of the fat from the squad and i fully anticipate a few more new faces to arrive before deadline, including another loan, and they will be VI type players bought to fit into the system and achieve promotion.  A failure to do this will leave us at risk to injuries impacting our success but even then I would expect VI to continue with his "happy what I have mantra" as he seems to have absolute confidence and conviction in his methids....and expect to see O'shea in CM again at some point ?  No doubt our biggest signing this year is the new manager, and at the moment that does look shrewd business.

Morgan Rogers in talks over a season loan to Bournemouth, reported mandatory fee at the end of the season of £9m.

Didn't particularly impress me in the play-off final but just one game and still only 19.

If we rated him you would have thought we'd be all over this.

As a champ club we ain't got £9 million to spend on potential!  And this is a player who is carrying Man City tax of £4 million? Nah

Earlier in the window we were linked with Jack Robinson. After seeing his performance yesterday I'm happy that there wasn't much in that link
