I'm no accountant, but I'm sure there'd be a way to structure the agreement so that the liability doesn't crystalise this season. I'd reckon he's the best bet to keep us up.

Any form of contractual bonus would bring the cost into the period to 30 June. I suppose you could offer him £5m for the next two seasons if we stay up as long as it wasn’t directly a reward for this season.
