We look cooked here. We were more competitive but once again appear to have lost key moments. Having your two key batsmen combined for less than sixty.
On the topic of the bowlers. A lot has been made of Wood and Archer not playing five tests, which is fine but it's hardly surprising we lack the same intensity when regularly given a session and a bit to rest up.
Disappointing as it felt really important to try and avoid losing the first test of the series, which we've done for the last four Ashes. I'm optimistic there is more fight in this team and Australia aren't infallible, but to have them feeling without Cummins and Hazelwood it feels a real pisser to seemingly let it slip.
