As inscrutable and bizarre as that statement is, it will probably fade into insignificance compared to the mind-bending bullshit that will be needed to explain away his involvement in the files.
Problem now is that whatever they release nobody will believe. If Trump isn't named then everyone will scream "cover up" and if he is then he and his MAGA friends will cry "fake!"
The fact that Trump is now calling for their release himself suggests he's pretty confident he isn't going to be damaged too badly by them.
